The Orange Mini

This was my first car, and was build, from scratch by my father and I. The basic shell came from a pretty sad looking mini that had been vadalised in a pub car park. The car was brought for £50, and transported to my garage to find exactly what state it was in. The state of the shell was actually quite good, floors, sills, subframes and running gear were all in pretty good shape. It was only the cosmetic stuff that needed sorting out. After we stripped it down as far as it would go, it got taken to KC Auto's Bodyshop. Here it had its dents, scratches and small patches of rust taken out, then it was sprayed bright orange so people could see me coming!!.

Once we got the mini back all sprayed we built a standard 998cc engine and dropped it in. Bit by bit the car got modified, a slightly tweaked engine evolved. We then had to swap the current head for an unleaded one. In the process it was polished, and skimmed but not gas flowed. The idea was to give it a little more kick but still be insurance friendly.

Once I was happy with the engine I did a few cosmetic things, like the tinted windows, sound system, number plates, and bumpers.

Below are the stage by stage shots of the project.

I should have some more of the engine soon...
