Scooby!
I
With the money I got for selling the Mk4 Astra Gsi, I brought this Subaru Impreza. I've always fancied one and have always been put off by how slow and unreliable they can be, also comments like Cadbury pistons didn't help.
I did a fair bit of research before i decided to buy one, and in then end I went for a UK 2000 AWD, and the latest model i could find. I managed to get this MY99, with 67k on the clock, and a full service history. It looked pretty good, even though it was previously a Cat D write off, and drives very well. The only modifications were a Magnex Backbox, which sounds good, but isn't too loud, an induction kit, and a dump valve with a trumpet!.
Mainly I decided on it to get me through winter, and be reliable. As its an MY99 its facelift with no nasty orange lights, etc, it has the later type Prodrive suspension, and nice steering wheel and gear knob.
The first job was to make sure it was 100% reliable. The service book as stamped up, but it had been a while since the cambelt was done, so off it went to Scoobyclinic.com, for a cambelt and tensioner.
Next was some new discs as the one that were on there were pretty knackered due to some sticking pistons.
Then I found the radiator had been bodged after the accident, so off to Peterbourough to meet a man who was breaking his track Scooby. A short drive later I was back and it was fitted in about 30 mins.
Next on the list is some decent brake pads, as I put cheap ones in to break the discs in. I'm thinking of Mintex or Ferodo's. I'm also tempted with the hybrid turbo, fuel pump, and regulator from the track day Scooby, but we'll see.
